Don Houge, PhD

Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Emeritus Assistant Professor of Family Practice, University of Minnesota

Don Houge is a licensed psychologist and a consultant certified in clinical hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Dr. Houge is on the faculty of the Center for Spirituality and Healing and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and an Emeritus Assistant Professor of Family Practice at the University of Minnesota. Previously, Dr. Houge was a tenured faculty member in the Department of Family Practice and Community Health, where he taught psychological medicine and clinical hypnosis to medical students, residents and practicing physicians. He also has a private practice, where he uses clinical hypnosis for a variety of clinical problems.

Dr. Houge has been teaching clinical hypnosis at the medical school since 1978. His research area is the use of clinical hypnosis for surgery and medical procedures. Dr. Houge has published and presented his work internationally at meetings of the International Society of Hypnosis and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and has developed an extensive set of videotapes showing clinical hypnosis applications. He is a past president of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis and regularly teaches in their continuing education programs.

Dr. Houge has a PhD from the University of Minnesota and has obtained training in clinical hypnosis from the Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the International Society of Hypnosis, and Milton Erickson.
